"These are some of the answer of questions I found in the books written by well known Scholars and writers who feel this necessary to erase and wash all the false rumors which is woven around Bhagwan Valmiki" - Virender Singh Gill

Who were ‘Kusilavas’ ?

Beyond Lav and Kush - great sons of Mata Sita there were two more peoples Kusilavas. But they were not Sita's childrens. So let us know who were they and what role they played in Ramayana.

According to Prof. Suniti Kumar Chatterjee in his book ”The Ramayana“ writes –

“Bhagwan Valmiki & his followers in the east class of Ramayana Singers, who came to be known as “Kusilavas” which later came to mean also actors & playwrights”

Western Scholar Dr. H. Jacobi in his book ‘Daas Ramayana’ – 1893 BC in Page No.62 writes –

“Professional ‘Traveling Singers’ who sing epic songs to the accompaniment of the lute were called Kusilavas ”

Father Comille Bulcke in his work ‘Ramkatha’ writes –

“Bhagwan Valmiki trained his disciples Kusilavas with Ramayan in song made in Labangi Raag & thus they earn their living by singing Ramayana going in the streets in Ayodhaya”

Rashtra Kavi Ramdhari Singh Dinkar in his book ‘Four Chapters of Sanskrit’ in Page –105 & Aacharya Chatursen in his work ‘Vaidek Sanskirti Asuri Prabhaav’ in Page –148 writes that ‘KUSILAVAS’ means the person who sings traditional songs going one place to another to earn their living.

So at last we came to conclusion that Kusilavas were not sons of Mata Sita but they were the first disciples of Bhagwan Valmiki Ji to whom he trained the song of Ramayana in Lavangi Raga & thus they were renowned all over the region. They were only professional singers who go from one place to another singing the song of Ramayana to earn their living. There are 24 Ashrams of Bhagwan Valmiki Ji all over in India and he was the Kulpati of entire Ashrams. According to Sh. Nilkanth Ji here I want to mention that ‘Kulpatis’ were those who gave their disciples not only food (aana daan) but also education (vidya daan). He has four lakh disciples in Tretayug. That time there were eight main Anarya castes like ‘Rakshash’, ‘Vanaras’, ‘Datya’, ‘Danav’, ‘Naag’, ‘Nishaad’, ‘Shabar’ & ‘Traksha’. This is the main proof that during that time he was worshipped as God from ancient times.
