Dear reader,
Vibes is a new voluntary independent group. In order to bring Bhagavan Valmiki ji’s message to English speaking Valmikis, we hope in the near future, to gain the full support of all the Sabhas in the UK, and we ask the Valmiki Sangat to support us in this quest.

This communication is particularly aimed at the young & older Valmikis who have been born or brought up away from the “home-land” (Punjab, North India) and have missed out on the opportunity to learn about the religion they are born into, because of the language barrier. Some of our Brothers and Sisters may feel unable to turn to their parents or the Valmiki temples to learn more about Bhagavan Valmiki, & Valmiki philosophy. We value and respect our temples, and they serve us well. We do not propose to replicate the temples roles, merely to provide a complementary service, hopefully with their blessings.

Our aim is to ease the frustrations experienced by the majority of English speaking Valmikis and the void that exists in obtaining spiritual guidance. English speaking Valmikis are experiencing new environments, relationships and predicaments, as well as dealing with the duality of an Eastern upbringing in a Western environment. Throughout this time few have realized the amount of information available to them in their “new” language. The Beautiful Philosophy of our Bhagvan that can be a guiding light in everyone’s lives. Our aim is to deliver an essential introduction to Brothers and Sisters on the beauty of Bhagavan Valmiki’s teaching in a way that engages our people to develop further interest in acquiring more knowledge.

A small inaugural team has put a lot of time and effort into this project and by the grace of our Guru, is taking these first steps. However, we need more brothers and sisters to join us. Our aim is to unify the Valmiki community and together tackle the issues that British Valmikis are facing today and likely to face in the future.

We want to bring like-minded Valmikis together and work on projects they define and to form action groups to tackle and address relevant issues in the community. We need you to help our shape our future. Please contact your local representative, or e-mail as below,to register your thoughts, view and interest on how we can all take this forward. Please also note the name at present has not been finalized and is open to opinion. VRU1@aol.com or Bedford@Valmikisabhas.org.uk

Dear All

I have just received the poem that Rena wrote just after attending the SOAS conference in London University. She recited this poem in a VIBES meeting in Birmingham and younger members of our community were really inspired by it. It sounds great when Rena recites it.

Regards

A NEW DAWN
by Reena Prasad, Castewatch UK

Waking up in a new dawn
see the faces of my ancestors
I feel their pain and hear the scorn
In the voices of their oppressors
I’m stunned by the evil trick played by fate
The trick that branded my people subhuman
And left them at the mercy of manmade hate
Heads bowed in duty to an evil race

Angry tears claw at my eyes
Fuming fingers scratch at my heart
Because my forefathers were distinguished men
Peaceful dwellers of the Indus Valley
They were writing philosophy
When Arayans were plotting barbarities

I come from proud people
India was our country
And truth lay in the scriptures of our Guru Bhagwan Valmik ji
And knowing this I wipe away my tears
Knowing this I hold my head high
Without hate, without fear

And even though Eklavya’s blood flows through my veins
It’s time to break free from history’s evil chains
I don’t have to cut off my thumb
I will not be branded as backward and dumb
This is our time to reclaim
Truth and beauty that belongs to us
So come stand up with me
Celebrate our heritage and history
Let’s move forward and rise
Restore identity
